Are Libraries Good for Authors?

This was a guest post on Rachelle Gardner’s blog that I really agree with. I think libraries have much more to offer authors than they take away. Especially for the new up and coming author libraries can be the first place you will find readers. The library can then offer a great place to connect with these readers.

More than anything the take away from this post should be for writers not to let publishers’ feelings about libraries deter them from working with their local library. Libraries do represent a huge business for publishers but I fear that those same publishers will not realize this until they have fully cut off libraries. Current eBook practices are not library friendly and if left to continue I fear may drive the content out of libraries. The loss will not be the library’s, however, but once the damage is done both sides will have a hard time getting things back on track.
